Online Safety

Online Safety is an important part of keeping children safe at Oldfield Park Junior School. We have extensive security measures in school, which are monitored both internally and externally, to help safeguard pupils from potential dangers or unsuitable material. Any online safety incidents are recorded and managed. Online Safety is taught to all pupils as one discreet lessons per term (six lessons per year) as well as being continually discussed throughout all lessons. All pupils are able to explain and demonstrate how to stay safe and behave appropriately online.

We can only be successful in keeping children safe online if we work with parents to ensure the the online safety message is consistent. It is important that parents speak to their children about how they can keep safe and behave appropriately online.

It is essential to be realistic - banning the internet or technology will not work and it often makes a child less likely to report a problem. Education around safe use is key.

Using the internet safely

No search engine is 100% safe, however there are options available! These links will guide you to some of the safer options.

During online safety discussions in school, teachers do address the fact that we use SWGfL filters, therefore protecting children from many of the harmful images and website links that could be accessed from home. Google offers a 'safer search' option for children using the internet; you can learn how to do this by downloading the instructions here.
