Equality, Diversity & Accessibility

Back

At OPJS, we are committed to ensuring equality of opportunity for all pupils, staff, parents and carers irrespective of race, gender, disability, belief, sexual orientation, age or socio-economic background. We aim to develop a culture of inclusion and diversity in which all those connected to the school feel proud of their identity and ability to participate fully in school life. We tackle discrimination through the positive promotion of equality, by challenging bullying and stereotypes and by creating an environment which champions respect for all.

The 2010 Equalities Act stipulates general and specific duties that must be carried out by all educational settings which include:

  • Eliminating unlawful discrimination
  • Promoting equal opportunity
  • Promoting good relations between people of different racial groups

We welcome every child to our school that can benefit from the education we provide, consistent with the Admissions Policy. We strive to support all children and enable them to reach their full potential. OPJS welcomes its responsibilities to promote equality of opportunity and outcomes for the different groups of people who are part of its community. We have a Single Equality Scheme (SES) which brings together the school’s approach for promoting equality in our policies and procedures and, most importantly in our day-to-day practices and interactions with the whole school community.

We acknowledge that it is very important for us to work together in achieving our aim of being fully inclusive and accessible, and ultimately in providing an exceptional learning experience for the children at OPJS.

Children are encouraged to work together, developing their independence and care of others. We recognise that being able to work as part of a team, to listen to others points of view and to express your own, are essential life skills. All children take part in regular PSHE lessons/circle time and through discussion start to understand that with rights come responsibilities.

OPJS is committed to providing a working environment free from discrimination, victimisation, and harassment. We strive to recruit an appropriately qualified workforce and governing body that is representative of all sections of the community in order to provide a service that respects and responds to the needs of our local population.
